ABOUT THE PROJECT
Preserved open seams of an early 20th century wall decoration and incorporated “clean girl” aesthetic concept – primary characterictics of the new Honta beauty salon in Madrid, Spain. Honta takes over 111 sq.m. and includes three main spaces: reception/waiting zone, with the hairdresser and make up area, a nail bar room and massage room with a shower.
COLOR SCHEME
Neutral yet warm, the “clean girl” aesthetic concept around a beauty salon has transcended beauty trends to become a lifestyle — and now, an interior design language. The designers started with a restrained, neutral color scheme — soft ivories, sand tones, and warm oats — offset by the accented brown and white shades. Natural light in the first main zone is maximized by floor-to-ceiling windows and reflective surfaces. The dominant interior materials are thoughtful and tactile: smooth wooden wall panels, reflective brass, decorative plaster, and tile. These neutral color combinations and smooth material solutions create a fresh, luminous base, sensorial elegance that mirrors the “clean girl” signature glow.
UNIQUE FEATURES
“The building itself, located at с. de Argensola, 27, Centro, Madrid, is a historical monument. Before ISTO started designing the beauty salon, there was a craft cheese shop and a restaurant on the site. We transformed the layout, preserved the primary appearance of the facade, and decided to open the seams for recreating the historical appearance of the wall in the main entrance room. The decision was unquestionable, because the original wall decoration is part of the cultural heritage that we have preserved, and it also served as an inspiration for the color combinations in the interior and the overall aesthetics of the space,” comments Polina Soloviova, chief designer at ISTO studio.
